UCN Committees
Each committee is made up of members and friends of the United Church of Newport. Positions are filled through a nominating process that happens prior to the annual meeting. If you attend the United Church and would like to serve our church by being on a committee, please let a committee chair or Valerie in the church office know.
Executive Board: The Executive Board is comprised of members of the church that help to make important decisions regarding the church as a whole.
Finance Committee: The Finance Committee handles all financial matters of the church.
Pastor/Staff Committee: The Pastor/Staff Committee is in charge of interviewing new staff and recommending candidates to the Executive Board. The committee also plays a large role in making sure the staff members are meeting the needs of the congregation.
Spiritual Leadership: The Spiritual Leadership Committee plays a large role in decorating the sanctuary for each season of the church year. The members together, help the Pastor with planning of services through the Lent, Easter and Christmas seasons and carry out some of the tasks that need to be done for the services such as gathering supplies, ordering flowers and organizing special music through the Summer.
Christian Education: The Christian Education committee meets through out the church year as needed. Members of the committee provide guidance on Sunday School curriculum, adult learning opportunities and Vacation Bible School.
Mission and Hospitality: The Mission and Hospitality Committee organizes multiple mission projects for the church to partake in each year. They are also instrumental in organizing pot luck meals, welcoming new members into the church and helping with church fundraisers.
Buildings and Grounds: The Buildings and Grounds Committee oversees the maintenance of the church building, grounds and of Magoon Park.
